The Hoornseplas south of the city of Groningen is a recreational lake which includes, sandy beaches, play and sunbathing areas, it measures 20 hectares.

The south side of the lake is designated for nudist recreation. The shallow swimming lake enjoys a sandy bottom.

At the entrance there are signs posting "free recreation". The walking path around the Hoornse Plas also runs over the nudist beach. On sunny days it can be busy with walkers.

Even so, it remains popular. The 'Nij-dam', is a concrete dam where you can walk over, in addition to the Nij dam, a bicycle bridge has been constructed, allowing walkers and cyclists to do a round of Hoornseplas separately from each other.
