Cupecoy bay is a clothing optional beach on the South West edge of the island of St. Martin and Sint Maarten. This coastline is made up of a chain of three white sand beaches which are set against a backdrop of caves, limestone cliffs, and rock formations.
Cupecoy bay is small and protected by a large surrounding cliff where you can explore many other coves of various sizes. After descending the steps into the bay you will find on the right of the entrance is the beach where mostly straight people gather. To the left is more gay. But everyone is welcome to any cove and the people straight or gay are very friendly and no one cares if you get nude or not.
The water gives decent surf, one that may be too difficult for younger/less able swimmers, but certainly not worrisome for those looking for a challenge. The cliffs protect it from the wind. Cupecoy can get busy due to its urban location, but is well worth a visit as it is simply beautiful, has some good snorkeling and it’s one of the best places to watch a sunset on St. Maarten!
