Saline Valley Hot Springs is a place to visit if you really want to get away from it all! This super remote desert valley is located in the vast mountains between Big Pine CA Route 168 & Death Valley (west) Highway 190.If you enjoy a challenging time of desert camping, you will be rewarded with three springs surrounded by palm trees which create a surreal, not so much clothing optional but more naturist oasis.
The road on which to travel is brutal on vehicles, and dangerous. Higher clearance is needed, low air pressure and patience as well as extra tires or a tire repair kit.
The beauty of the springs is a communal spirit in protecting it. There is a seasonal community that resides there, and if you stay for more than a week don't be shy about pitching in and offering to clean the tubs or muck out the toilets. It's part of what makes the place special - everyone does what they can.The soaking tubs get cleaned daily, so they are immaculate.
