Lucy Vincent Beach is a Chilmark beach which is normally an entrance by town permit only, but off season, it open to anyone. It is certainly one of the loveliest beach on Island. It has been a tradition for many Islanders and visitors to go when access is available to everyone. The beach has suffered from devastating erosion - houses lost as the cliffs are washed away. The section the left, as you enter, had a cliff that served as a scenic outlook, but it is now closed as access is dangerous.
One section of that bluff has gone through very dramatic changes. At one time it was a natural bridge, then looked like the Sphinx and now a portion has a face that looks like a Scottish dog. The beach has two sections. The first part about 1/4 mile is family friendly. The upper end is clothing optional. Still family friendly. There are many beautiful rock formations, small cliff dunes, crashing waves, and fog that rolls in and out.
