Playa Son Bou is Menorca's largest beach, located on the south coast of the island, between Ciudadela and Mahón (at the height of Alaior) around 30 minutes drive from Mahon airport.
Son Bou has the longest and some say the finest beach in Menorca - over 2km of fine golden sand, making this area ideal for families, sun worshippers and water sport enthusiasts. At the east end of the beach of Son Bou you will find the ruins of an old paleo-Christian basilica discovered in 1951.
The sand shelves very gently into the sea making it safe for smaller children to paddle in and older ones to swim. But bathers should heed the red and green flags alerting to the swimming conditions. Son Bou is very well known for the naturists who use it. Playa de Son Bou, otherwise known as Prat de Son Bou offers two beaches within one.
One one side the beach is urbanised and geared towards tourism, offering good access by car. The other side is unspoilt and quiet where one heads if they wish to practice naturism. Of course, if you are looking for the famous wild coves of Menorca this is not your place although a visit is worth it.
