Playa de Ponzos is a straight beach located 10 km from the center of Ferrol and extends along 1400 meters in the parish of Covas. A extremely windy, but very virgin beach of fine sand and dangerous waves. Referred to as one of the most beautiful beaches of the Iberian peninsula. You will find the landscape is very beautiful, it stands out greatly within the beach panorama of Galicia
A concrete ramp leads down to this wild setting, where spots for sunset-watching are at a premium. There used to be a gold mine here, and a cylinder-shaped tower that is still standing, marks the beginning of the naturist sector which is at the last stretch of the beach.
The occupation is low during the winter and average in summer. According to some historical data; it was in this area they found gold from the time of the Romans and it is said that its name would come by the great quantity of mining wells that constituted the entrance to the exploitations, which is currently abandoned and of which the remains can be found at the foot of the beach.
The left side of the beach (access is asphalted and has services) is 100% textile. The rest of the sand, from the central area to the right is naturist. The naturist part is recognized because it has worse access and is surrounded by cliffs of impossible descent. You will find 70% of Playa de Ponzos is naturist and is one of the most recognized and beautiful naturist beaches of Galicia.
Swimming here is dangerous, and experts recommend doing nothing more than “poking the wave,” or touching it and quickly jumping out again.
