Bordered by the beaches of San Agustín in the east and Maspalomas in the west, the 2.7 kilometre long Playa del Inglés lays claim to being one of the most famous beaches in Europe. A purpose-built resort being built with tourism in mind offers sand by day and pubs and clubs galore by night.
Playa del Inglés is a fun-and-sun resort of high-rise hotels, shopping malls and fast-food restaurants. It has a more upmarket appearance than you might expect. On the downside everything is tourist-driven and the only languages you’ll need are German or English. The only natural items of genuine interest are the impressive dunes of Maspalomas.
On the beach are various sections clearly marked out; areas for youngsters, a meeting place for surfers, running enthusiasts etc. The curve is where the secluded nudist area begins close to the dunes Roughly midway between Playa del Ingles and Maspalomasis at Number 6 cafe and the gay beach is near bar number 7. The dunes are a popular cruising area and are patrolled by the police, some on quad bikes or jeeps. The police are there to ensure the safety of the tourists.
As you head southwest along the Playa del Ingles beach you find that the beach is widening all the time and transforms from a beach to a beach backed by sand dunes. Before you reach the southern tip you can see the vast Maspalomas Sand dunes stretching out to the West up to the restaurants and bars next to Maspalomas beach.
