Relaxing, great ambience, official nudist beach,

Summary: This in one of my personal favourites, in a picturesque setting this officialy designated naturist beach has a great, relaxing ambience. Populated almost 100% by naturists, it is very popular with couples, singles and also ideal for families. It is located within a controlled area, and there is a vehicle access charge during the main holiday season. Parking is at the side of the track, which runs from San José, a few hundred metres before the Mónsul carpark. It’s then a two hundred metre walk across some flat barren land, before following the footpath through the dunes for a few hundred metres more, to arrive at the beach. Alternatively, it is a rather long walk from San José (8km?) on a route popular with hikers/ramblers. The sand is darker than the other beaches but nice and fine and with hardly any pebbles. This for me is a very special beach and if you are receptive to such things, radiates a very sublime, almost magical ‘energy’...no doubt due to the volcanic origins of the area...and for that reason, it’s not uncommon to see people practicing yoga and meditating. Access to the sea is very good, although increases in depth more rapidly than say Las Genoveses. What is worth being aware of, depending on the wind direction/ tidal conditions, the sea can on occassion have strong waves. On one occassion I even became a tad uncomfortable being in the sea and experienced a ‘rip tide’ effect. This is warned of, on the signs leading to the beach.....the secret being, if you experience such, to move to your left or right, before exiting the sea a.s.a.p .......it is important to point out, this has only happened to me on one occassion, having spent numerous days on this beach. On relatively infrequent occassions, wind can blow the fine sand, especially at beach level, so having a beach tent can be an asset at such times. Further to that it is worth noting, some times I have experienced these conditions and thought, evidently that is why there are not many people here today......only later to realise.....if the sea is choppy at Playa Barronal, then everyone goes to Playa Genoveses where the sea will be calm, and vice.a.versa, on days of slightly rough sea conditions. Beach behaviour is very good as we would hope and expect. Even in the dunes area leading to the beach, I have never had suspicion of anything untoward, with as far as I have been witness, people respecting nature and keeping to the designated path to the beach. Just one further comment or should I say observation?! The beach although primarily family, couple orientated, is also popular with gays, especially men, nothing wrong with that and I have never witnessed anything even remotely untoward on the beach. What I would say, is the gay men tend to drift off around the rocky outcrop to the left of the beach, to the ajoining shallow, isolated beach of relatively tricky access.....I’ll leave anything else to your imagination......but in truth, not a problem or anything to posibly spoil your day on the delightful main beach......just be aware!
