Summary:
Apollo is a lovely beach in a nature preserve. The c/o area is generally to the south of the 5th parking area...also the smallest parking area. If that parking area is full, then next closest lot is one mile to the north....so it's not a terrible idea to bring a bicycle along. Occasionally there’s c/o use between the 4th and 5th parking areas. Not sure the legal status of that though.
Whereas the beaches several miles to the north - New Smyrna and Daytona - are generally flat with hard packed sand (suitable for driving if you’re not concerned with the undercarriage of your car), Apollo is a looser and more coarse sand at a steeper grade. All that means is that walking can be a little more fatiguing, and the waves often break hard right by the shore. Those aren’t negatives. Just something to be aware of
It’s not as social a place as Haulover Beach or Blacks Beach, or even Playalinda. In our experience, the rare occasions there are groups, they’ve tended to stick to themselves. Also fine, because you’re out in nature at a really undeveloped area of the coastline. Generally the beach-goers here are singles (men typically outnumber women), couples, families, and occasional curious lookie-loos. Lurkers are not unheard of, but they don’t seem to be much of a nuisance most times. Facilities located in parking areas. And it’s a well known area for surf fishing….some of the anglers are dressed, others aren’t
Speaking of fish. Just to the north of the entrance to the Canaveral National Seashore on A1A is JB’s Fish Camp. A really fantastic local seafood joint. Think rustic! Definitely worth a stop after a day at Apollo.
