Japan has a long history of nude public bathing often in mixed gender and family groups where they gather in onsens (hot springs) and sentos (public bathhouses). There are more than 4,000 hot spring resorts and more than 30,000 hot springs. Japan has no designated clothing-optional beaches. So you will need to seek private or isolated areas for nude recreation. However, discretion is advised to avoid legal or social repercussions.
