Waihi is coastal town situated at the western end of the Bay of Plenty in New Zealand's North Island. Waihi Beach is on one of New Zealand's safest surf beaches.
It is a gently shelving beach where you can get a good distance out from shore before the water is deep enough to go over your head. Small to medium-size waves generally break evenly along this beach but the surf can get rough in certain weather so be aware of the conditions.
Unofficial nude bathing is enjoyed at the southern end of Waihi Beach but be fairly discreet as this is a popular beach which is also enjoyed by many textile tourists. With 9km of unspoilt white sand, there is plenty room for everyone.
