Ototoka is a beautiful beach just north of Whanganui. A wild and peaceful beach which has 2 distinct parts. The beach below the car-park, can be reached by descending the path past the fossilised cliff rocks and waterfall, this is a popular area for fishermen, dog-walkers, and families.
Swimming is good along this stretch of coast, with normal caution taken for west-coast conditions. Going around the point at the north of the beach, which is best at low tide takes you to a beautiful long bay heading towards Waitotara. Ototoka has been an unofficial clothing optional beach for many years, although it is quiet due to being only frequented by a few in the know, its vastness ensures as much (or as little) privacy as you want.
