Potter's Falls aka Green Tree Falls is a 25-foot high jagged edged cascade in Ithaca, New York. The Six Mile Creek, particularly above the dam and at Potter's Falls, is a notorious nude sunbathing and skinny dip area. The falls cascades into a young pool of refreshingly cool water which presents an almost irresistible invitation for naked swimming.
The Upper reservoir - Upstream from Potter's Falls - this is the water source for Ithaca and swimming is definitely NOT permitted.
The Lower Reservoir - Has a sign "SWIMMING PROHIBITED." You will find people do often swim here from a large, flat rock - but you may be subject to arrest if you do. The area is patrolled by the Gorge Rangers who can arrest swimmers. The pool is rather deep near the falls and expands out to some broad, shallow region downstream. The stream bed both above and below the falls is surrounded by rocky ledges.
There are a network of trails and it is easy to get lost so keep track of your route and ask directions of people you meet. Potter's Falls were designated as a wildflower preserve in 1970. The trail’s first mile is believed to hold the greatest wildflower diversity in the state.
