Pfeiffer Beach is a lovely clothing optional beach scenic beach open all year round just ¼ mile from the Big Sur Ranger Station. It may be one of the most photographed spots in Big Sur, but it's also one of the hardest to find. Sycamore Canyon Road, which leads down to the beach, is unsigned.
Nude sunbathers head to the far north end of the beach, but be careful, in high tide this section of beach can get cut off, so pay attention to the tidal times before planning a trip here. This beach is also known for its winds!
At the right time of year, the dramatic rock arches frame breathtaking Big Sur, which is famous for its stunning sunsets. This beach also has unusual purple sand, which is created from manganese garnet washing down the hillside. Head further north and the more purple it becomes. Kids love playing in the creek that empties out into the ocean. The tide is strong, so swimming is not advised.
