The Ayres is an important stretch of low-lying sand dune coastline, which stretches 8 kilometres from Cronk-y-Bing to the Point of Ayre, 10 kilometres (6 mi) north of the town of Ramsey.
Leading from the shingle beach, the marked Nature Trail winds through the marram dunes and onto the expanse of heath with its extensive lichen flora.
Strong currents offshore cause an ever-changing build-up of shingle, so that the beach changes shape with each tide. Point of Ayre lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse on the Isle of Man, is located here.
You will find many secluded spots should you wish to practice naturism along this rugged coastline.
