Cala Varcas is an unspoilt beach about 12 km south of Porto Cristo on the east coast of Majorca. Visiting Cala Varques is like immersing yourself in Mallorca half a century ago.
This beach, like those in the surrounding area, has escaped from the urbanizations of the rest of the coast of the island's east and preserves a great landscape value. There is a huge pinewood that surrounds the cove white sand of 90 metres in length and 60 metres deep, and has waves crashing against it, funnelled in from the cove.
The sea is that wonderful deep turquoise colour which contrasts against the white surf and golden sands, and is ideal for snorkeling. At noon there is no shade, so do not forget the sunscreen. Not suitable for people with reduced mobility or baby carriages due to the access road.
The cove is worth it if you do not like the bustle of people. Recommended to go first thing to enjoy the tranquility as from 12 noon this small cove gets very crowded. There are also people that camp overnight. To the south of Cala Varques beach are low cliffs and interesting rock formations which are fun to explore. Follow this round and you'll come across another tiny beach that is enjoyed by naturists.
