Located within a protected zone, in the Natural Park of Ria Formosa, Praia da Ilha de Tavira is considered to be one of the best beaches in the Algarve Region. It has areas where naturism can be practised without problems. It is 11Km long and golden sand for as far as the eye can see. With varying widths between 1Km and 150m.
The waves can be quite powerful and the sand shelves down quite steeply into the water so be careful with young ones.
The island is reached via a short ferry journey which travels through the wetlands, home to flamingoes and other wading birds, and on to this huge sandbank with its beautiful beach, where there are little homes scattered among'st the dunes.
Between Terra Estreita and Praia de Tavira, The Praia do Homem Nú was the Algarve’s original nudist beach it is quite difficult to get to. The only method is to travel to the Praia de Tavira or the Praia da Terra Estreita and then walk the 1km along the beach.
