The island of Folegandros, in the south-western Cyclades, has a very small population. Agios Nikolaos beach located on the northern part of the island, has become quite a busy beach with a good influx of tourists mainly due to the bus routes which now give service to this beach.
Agios Nikolaos beach is a mixture of sand, shingle, and small stones, with some tamarisk trees to provide shade. It is very rare for the sea here to be rough, even when it is at Agali beach, which is less than 2 Km away, maybe due to its sheltered setting on the south side of the island.
In addition to safe swimming, snorkeling is quite good. Be careful as many of the rocks in the bay have become infested with sea urchins, so swim shoes advisable. The beach of Agios Nikolaos is definitely a clothing optional beach, especially at the far end from the chapel and restaurants.
