Portugal
Portugal is a fantastic place for naturists to visit. You will find eight official naturist beaches and dozens more where naturism is standard procedure.
Naturism has existed in Portugal from around 1920 and is no law against nudity. The Portuguese are relaxed about nudity and nudism is widespread. You will find many beaches suitable for naturism in the north, but due to the climate and the quality of sand, most are within a 30km radius of Lisbon and on the Costa Vicentina, bordering the Algarve. You will find only a handful between Porto and the Spanish border.
There is also a range of naturist and naturist-friendly accommodation options including guesthouses, campsites, and hotels. And, of course, there are plenty of private villas. There are also several naturist clubs and associations that organise activities aimed preferably at its federated members.
Portugal has over 1800km of coastline and 300 days of sunshine a year. Public nudity is not against the law, an offence is only committed if somebody feels morally offended and files a complaint.
There are currently nine official naturist beaches in Portugal with the majority concentrated along the Western Algarve and a few more along Alentejo's Atlantic coast. Whilst none of the Lisbon/Cascais beaches are considered naturist some of the finest in the country can be found around the corner near Sintra or just across the river at Costa da Caparica.
The four official naturist beaches in the Algarve are Adegas at Odeceixe, Ilha Deserta off the coast of Faro, Barril on the Ilha de Tavira and Meia Praia in Lagos. There are plenty more where nudity is accepted, or where all or part of the beach has become naturist in practice.
Here you will find over 50 beaches where nudity is practised. If you are looking for a naturist place to stay, there are campsites, hotels, resorts and bed and bed breakfasts. This means you don’t have to limit yourself to getting that perfect tan on the beach: you can get it at your accommodation as well.

This south facing beach is protected from the westerly winds by the spectacular 40m high cliffs which keep this beach sheltered. Once you have negotiated the steep steps down the cliff side there are interesting rock formations and caves to explore. At the far end of the beach in the second or western cove, is the nudist section where one can enjoy the clean white soft sands. Be aware that the water in this area can be very dangerous due to the tides, rips and currents. less

It has areas where naturism can be practised without problems. It is 11Km long and golden sand for as far as the eye can see. With varying widths between 1Km and 150m.The waves can be quite powerful and the sand shelves down quite steeply into the water so be careful with young ones. The island is reached via a short ferry journey which travels through the wetlands, home to flamingoes and other wading birds, and on to this huge sandbank with its beautiful beach, where there are little homes scattered among'st the dunes.Between Terra Estreita and Praia de Tavira, The Praia do Homem Nú was the Algarve’s original nudist beach it is quite difficult to get to. The only method is to travel to the Praia de Tavira or the Praia da Terra Estreita and then walk the 1km along the beach. less

The sea here is calm and great for children. In front of the beach, there are rock formations emerging from the sea which create a stunning landscape.Split into two parts at high tide but at low tide you can venture to the smaller sandy bay to the west in the direction of Portimão. This area tolerates naturism and since it is less accessible it offers greater tranquility. There is also cave area which will appeal to those wanting to explore. less

It is also the largest beach in the region offering its visitors 5km stretch of soft golden sand stretching on the western side from Lagos to the Odiáxere River mouth on the eastern side. A network of wooden walkways have been installed to provide protection of the dunes and diverse flora and fauna, which also provides easy access onto the beach. The shallow shoreline is ideal for families with small children.A popular destination for windsurfers due to the absence of rocks in the ocean, when the wind is strong there are numerous sheltered sandy coves nestled between the cliffs where one can take shelter. Naturists prefer to head further east where it is quieter and the scenery is more natural. less

Secretly tucked between rocky cliffs, it has been said to be one of Portugal's most beautiful beaches. A popular beach with naturists (where naturist boards have been erected) and sheltered from the winds, access is difficult where you descend down steps carved into the surrounding rock slopes. It also has an interesting cave that connects to a grotto. This small golden beach measuring just 40 meters long has sea which is very clear – ideal for snorkeling. less

It is also one of those beaches that virtually disappears at high tide, although, there is a wonderful stretch of sand when the tide is out. To the southern end of the beach is a small stream that cascades down the cliff face. less

A beautiful golden sandy cove which is backed by high cliffs with a deep valley winding down to the beach. Formations of jagged rocks and many nooks and crannies make exploring here fun.The beach here is usually quieter than the better known beaches in the area and is mostly the preserve of local naturists who enjoy going to the North end.

The sunsets here are wonderful. less

This very beautiful un-spoilt and wild beach of gold sand is one of the area's best unofficial naturist beaches, due in part to the scramble down the rock to get to it. The sea is cold and there is no fresh water to drink, but you can spend hours exploring the surrounding cliffs. Even though it's so close to the many tourists at Cabo da Roca, Praia da Ursa is really a world away. You won't be disappointed!

Access is a little complicated, but because of this it is a quiet beach wedged between cliffs and the ocean which gives it shelter from the strong winds that sometimes blow here. When the tide is low, on the southern side it is possible to enjoy delightful walks through all the little nooks that enhance this landscape.
