The Netherlands has few 'city parks' where nude recreation is officially permitted. The Zonneweide in the Amsterdamse Bos is one such area. This recreation area permitted in the so named Zonneweide area of the Amsterdamse woods offers a large 2 hectare open space with only one path of entry. There are several ponds and streams that can be used for swimming. There is a sand beach along a part of Grote Vijver pond. Weather conditions permitting, the water in the Groot Kinderbad children's paddling pool is activated from May until September.
Approximately 6 million people visit the forest each year.
The nudist meadow is only an area for relaxing but no swimming water. There are plenty of shady spots.
Since 2016, the sunbathing area has a drinking water tap. In 2014 the sunbathing area threatened to be closed due to sexual nuisance, for the time being in consultation with the NFN it has been decided to keep it open. Undesirable behavior is not to be tolerated. It is not permitted to stay the night and sleep anywhere in the forest, accept in the designated Camping Amsterdamse Bos.
