Description : Penny Hot Springs sit on the banks of the Crystal River, a short drive south from Carbondale. The set up consists of three shallow pools where the hot spring water mixes with the river water. The larger pools are accessible when the river water level is down otherwise only the smaller pools are accessible.

The larger pools near the river tend to be cooler as more of the river water is mixed in. There is enough room for about 10-12 people, but there is not a lot of shore space so this isn't somewhere you could bring a bunch of chairs and set up for the day.

A diverse crowd to be mixed, individuals, couples, families. Clothed as well as nude bathers. These springs are free, convenient with no hiking required.

Facilities There are no amenities or bathroom facilities, at these primitive hot springs. There are no trash containers and no caretaker. Please be mindful and pack out everything you bring in.

Ease of Access Although short, the walk from the parking lot to the hot springs themselves can be treacherous as the path is just rocks varying in steepness.

Directions The Penny Hot Springs are located right off Highway 133, a few hundred feet north of mile marker 55. The road overlooks the springs and there is some gravel parking with just a short walk to the undefined path.
