I'm in my 60s and when I first learned about naturism as a young teenager, the only impression I got from the media was that it was a wholesome non-sexual activity, even though very much a minority interest.
In those days it was just TV and newspapers, no internet of course, and I don't believe there was anywhere near the rabid competition for people's attention and engagement that we have today. There were three TV channels and a few newspapers, plus magazines etc. Now we have hundreds of TV channels and literally millions of places on the internet, all vying for viewers and followers. Many rely on generating outrage, hostility and conflict to keep people engaged, so I think any negative and potentially scandalous coverage is amplified, regardless of whether it's fair or not.
I think people get riled up about all kinds of things, including naturism, far more than they did decades ago. If a TV company, newspaper or any other media/internet outlet want to make output about naturism, they're less likely to show it as a harmless if perhaps eccentric activity, because that's not exciting enough. I think the only answer is for naturists to unashamedly promote naturism as a wholesome activity that's completely family-friendly and not something to worry about. But that's not easy, I accept.
As controversial as it is to say, as a family we feel betrayed by national organisations, some clubs and some events who have idly stood by, and allowed the eradication of families from naturism to happen. With over 100 years of positive history, rather than fight for naturism and prove through experience and history that families within naturism are the core of it, and the effects of naturism is positive for children, they have stood hand wringing and whimpering in the corner out of fear of a few hurty words, rather than fight the cause of naturism.
This myth that children are offended should have been wiped out with facts, but rather than stand up for what they believed in, and knew to be fact, those who control naturism from the top, have shied away from anything that might impact on the profitability of exploiting the 18 to 30’s demographic.
Only this week the national organisation of the UK has written about how NKD has been its biggest and best yet, but have failed to mention that what was traditionally supposed to be a families only event, had no publicity mentioning families, and was pitched at a far wider audience than normal. It stands to reason that to widen the scope of the event to allow for a more adult orientated direction aimed at the above teenage years, has led to more growth as restrictions on who could attend were softened. This sleight of hand tactic to boost revenues by white washing families away is yet another sign of naturism’s reluctance to actually stand up for what it believes in.
Naturism is currently being pushed at young people of drinking age with plenty of disposable income, with new, hip and trendy events that fear to even mention the words “Naturism,” as we see in the promotion of events such as “EveryBody.” What those who sit around organising with the sound of the cash register tinging in their ears fail to note, is when those singles who are spending now settle and have children, they too will pushed out naturism, left to be home naturists the way we have for years, and less and less children will be able to experience the feelings of loving their own bodies and being at ease with themselves as our generation have done.
It makes no sense at all, that naturism should wield to an American social media driven world of advertisers using corporate power to beat everyone into conformity, especially considering the rich history Britain has had as a leading light into the naturist world. Why should all of us bow down to corporate greed that shames the body, erases children, and indoctrinates the mind to believe everything not profitable is inherently evil, whilst at the same time it sexualises everything and everyone whilst exploiting the very same young for profits.
British Naturism has failed in its duty to protect families within naturism, as it has sold its soul to the corporate greed of wokery and trending hash tags, it is utterly disgraceful and is abandoning the very core of what made naturism wholesome and pure to begin with.
i agree with what R&R said and it's destroying naturism. what confuses me is all the 18-30 drinking age adults with money to spend. are they single?
because the biggest barrier to naturism for me has been the no single men rule, right from the word go. how do i as a single man promote naturism as a healthy safe lifestyle choice when the organisation itself bars me from joining clubs simply because i never married or had a partner, like being married somehow makes me a safe bet?
but now suddenly because the money men have realise that young carefree singles are are safe bet due to them having money to burn?. I was a young care free single back in the 1990s but back then it wasn't about the money it was about the mistrust of the single man and not being allowed to have the benefit of the doubt.
so now they can ply the young single carefree naturists with alcohol make a profit and oh dear somebody has been harmed.
yes very safe idea that wasn't it.
