We believe that keeping such traditions alive are of historic and social importance, and a wonderful example of how to keep our national identities while also building on a more connected and tolerant global society.
Many of these celebrations predate current thoughts and even long standing religions and have fascinating back stories of their own.
It is part of the joy of the ANW community that we embrace and respect each others cultures and welcome each member to celebrate their national days and traditions with interest and support. Rather than wish to hide from our national identities and take on the increasingly worrying trend of encouraging people to treat their history and culture with contempt and shame we believe real bonding can be found through delighting in these special days and the traditions we enjoyed as children. They represent a lovely way to find out more about each other, our countries, our people and our histories. A friendly way of making everyone feel welcome and at home in this global community.
We want this topic to be a place where people can share the fascinating traditions that they have grown up with. Tell us about different foods eaten on special days, other things you do on these days, and maybe enlighten us with some back ground on the origin of these events, dishes and ideas.
