So true Chris and people do have to put their money where their mouth is.
A sad situation with naturism is that many naturists know exactly how they feel about naturism and understand the healthy, family friendly, non-sexual, body positive .....sides to it but also know that unfortunately their friends/familiy/neighbours/work colleagues/parents on the school run....don't. The vast majority of sensible, genuine naturists simply don't want to put themselves through the turmoil of having people consider them oddballs/sex deviants/exhibitionists/voyeurs.....for the sake of supporting a lifestyle that they appreciate.
There is a genuine fear that unless you are able to sit down and expalin the lifestyle with everyone you know that you can become a social outcast. There are naturists who genuinely believe that they will lose their jobs, social standing and even their children if it is found out that they are naturists. These may be paranoid fears but that doesn't make them less real to those with the fears.
Those that are willing to step on to the cover of H&E or into a national magazine or newspaper have to not care about the consequences. This could be because they are simply completely driven in supporting the lifestyle, have no connections that they may lose that matter, know no one they know will see the image or actually are exhibitionists/oddballs etc. When Steve and I promote naturism we always have to consider how this may effect our children - could they get teased at school, could parents decide that they don't want their children connected with a naturist family.
When the protests were happening a couple of years back a couple of families chatted to me via messages telling me that they were not going to go to the event because of the fear of being photographed by the protestors and put on social media. They didn't mind the protestors being rude or agressive - they feared the publicity of their naturism.
I think the biggest thing naturism needs to address is getting itself fully understood - fighting misunderstanding and unhealthy links. When society starts to properly understand naturism then naturists won't worry about people knowing they are naturists.
