Backsides are important to everyone. We all have one. We all sit on them. Sometimes people even talk out of them. But they are one part of the body that you never really see properly, just like your back or the back of your own head so I cannot ultimately say whether I would want to share such a photo. Or that anyone would want to see it.
Unlike my feet, which I can see and do not personally like them, so I tend to avoid having them in photos. But I cannot comment about my backside.
In the real world referring to someone's backside can have a flirtatious, or even sexual aspect for both men and women. In the naturist world this shouldn't be the case.
I have seen photos on here of people out hiking, sunbathing, or gazing at a panoramic view when their backsides are visible. But the backside itself is not the focus or central point of the picture.
Naturism for me is how it makes all of me feel. Excluding my feet from a photo is one thing and focusing solely on my backside (or other certain body parts) is an entirely different thing.
This may just be a bit of fun as Monochrome Monday is, but then Tinted Tuesday could be too, where we all look colourful and modern artyish.
It is sometimes hard and problematic determining whether the focus of an image has crossed a line, so perhaps before posting, or banning, or not banning these images we should all ask ourselves "would I set this picture as my profile photo?"
I guess I need to ring in here since it was me who hopped on and suggested that a weekly theme that celebrated our flip side might be a thing we would like to do. Sorry being the newbie that I am I did that without really thinking much about it. Its was all in the spirit of fun.
First off, I love that we have weekly themed activities where we are encouraged to share our naked selves. This is a brilliant way to keep us engaged in the ANW community and to interact with each other.. become real friends in our nakedness even though we are oceans apart in many cases. For some of us.. like myself this is our primary way to "fit in".
In retrospect Tushy Tuesday is probably a terrible name for a new activity.. especially if it is already established outside of ANW with its own non naturist intonation. It was just a catchy cute name. In the US a bare bottom is not actually considered nudity.. even very restrictive social media platforms like Facebook dont ban it. I agree that its important to preserve ANW as the gold standard of naturism... because that's why we are here.
But I still think the idea of introducing a new activity that celebrates our nakeness from a perspective we can never see ourselves otherwise is a good one. As a newbie starting out I had great advice on what suitable naturist pictures are. I always strive to maintain the context of my sheer joy of my nakedness and love of my new found naturist life in every picture I take... even the few from behind.
It is somewhat ironic that before I began my naturist journey less than a year ago my backside was my most hated part of my body.. focus of those who shamed me.. and made me miserable in my textile life is now cherished along with all of my body that I have learned to love. Not singling it out.. Just giving it the love it deserves.
All that being said I believe what was really intended in this forum was not to debate whether we should institute a Tushy Tuesday activity but rather what the guidelines for introducing new channels for expressing our joy in our nakeness should be. I would love to be part of that process.
Thanks everyone for you thoughts so far - all very interesting and varying - I look forward to more.
Just a little catch up on my thoughts reading through.
First I want to reiterate that we never had any concerns about the sharing of the few posts on Tuesday and saw them for the harmless bit of sharing fun for which they were intended.
And we certainly have no problems with the sharing of images taken from behind, there are many already on ANW and I know Steve and I have shared a few over the years. As Appaloosa says we should be happy to celebrate this part of our body, and rear shots do help some people find some confidence in posting. Though as Kevin says we wouldn't want to open the floodgates to lots of people sharing backside photographs - certainly if that is the main focus and they share nothing else. As he say that isn't really naturism.
We have always suggested to people who are fearful of showing faces that a long shot of them from the back on a beach , or hiking etc (as Byranne points out) are totally acceptable. The ideal being that they will find the comfort to share their faces, as in reality within naturism we do not spend our time facing away from people. Though I have always argued that some naturist celebrities/bloggers should not purposely cover up their breasts and genitals in photographs shared within naturist websites/magazines etc as this to is confusing to newbies and learners and not how naturism works - it suggests we maintain a concern about parts of our bodies being seen. (Fair enough when we have to on the likes of Facebook - and fair enough if you are just a casual user of the internet who has concerns of family/work colleagues/neighbours etc - but naturist writers earning money from naturism?)
Incidentally the rules on buttocks have changed on places like Facebook, Instagram and some others and they will now remove bottom images. I have had many dozens of older posts removed since they changed the rules last year. Though our posts are reported by others within naturism who want ANW silenced so it is possible to still not get caught with this rule but if they decide your bottom is in view they can remove it and certainly have many times during 2025 - and we have never posted images were the bottom is a particular focus of the image.
I love D and A's point of ANW differentiating itself from other websites. And that feels very much in tune with my own thinking. Partly as we are always able to share images showing our bottoms without it causing any surprise and we need no hashtag excuse to do it under.
Although it is fun to have image sharing days like Monochrome Monday this is not the only time we can share B&W images but also more about the photograph than the body part.
As Bryanne mentions feet it is an interesting point, some people have foot fetishes, and although we are always happy for feet to be in images, would we want to invite a special day for sharing feet images that may then get twisted into having another level of interest. We are always happy for shots of people from behind to be shared but wouldn't want to encourage suggestive angles or close up images that are more about buttock exhibitionism. Just as images of breasts are a mater of fact rather than about leaning forward, pushing the cleavage together and inviting another level of interest that would be out of place in ANW.
Tony makes an interesting point on pressure. No one should ever feel pressurised to do anything on ANW. Naturism is about comfort and all users should find their own comfort. We want everyone to feel at ease and happy to share but it has to be in their time, and also not to feel forced into taking part in every activity. We always post a TISW(O)AS but sometimes miss MMMM! and Monochrome Monday. There should be no hard and fast demands as long as everyone is respectful to each other, ANW and naturism.
It is certainly interesting to consider that our buttocks and I guess our backs in general are something that are rather alien to most of us. And it is always good to find a peace with all parts of our body. Though maybe the buttocks don't need singling out, we do want to include them along with everything else in our natural sharing.
We definitely want ANW to be unique and also fun and engaging.
I look forward to further thoughts on this topic - as Kaycee says it isn't just about Tushy Tuesday but about the whole concept of how we share and what works here on ANW.
Thanks all.
